I can text my non mac friends from my iPad but the text is not free. It's green instead of blue.

Pat, my iPad does have a cellular plan. Just seems so weird to me that it would be this difficult to text between an iPad and an Android.

It's not difficult on a cel plan iPad. Only on a wifi iPad.

My Verizon cellular iPad is incapable of sending SMS text messages in the absence of an iPhone to send them through.

I don't have any trouble texting from my iPad.
