Re: [iPad] Apple acquires virtual assistant maker VocalIQ to bolster Siri’s conversational skills | 9to5Mac

Artificial intelligence and voice recognition are baby technologies, and the immaturity shows painfully in halting attempts, like Siri, to make them commercially viable.

True artificial intelligence doesn't exist, and may never.
Expert systems are getting better and better.

I like the old definition of Artificial Intelligence (given in my first text book of AI by Elaine Rich)

"AI is trying to make computers do things where currently humans do better than computers".

That sounds like a good definition of what I would call "expert systems" — IBM's Watson can play Jeopardy, or Chess, better than humans, but while it could be called "knowledgable", it isn't "intelligent".

To me, "artificial intelligence" is an electronic system that is sentient — including self aware.
