Google voice offers free texting. I use that when I don't have a cell phone connection.

Thanks, Sandra...I have tried text free too in the past, but it was just one more app to keep tabs on. I was really hoping the iMessage could work with both Apple users and Android users, but I guess not (at least for those of us without an iPhone).
