I agree.. You mention iBooks. Look at Goodreader, you can add folders, delete folders, rename, so while its a private file system, its great. And its supported by Apple as they allowed it in the app. If this private app pseudo file system was more common, that would go a long way.
The device that Jim mentioned allows files to be transferred to and from, although the files exist only in the expand app. Be a step to allow export/import to an app that supports the file type. Its convenient, and later, when we sync and backup to iTunes, it all catches up.
These two features would close that file accessibility issue a great deal IMO

Subject: Re: [iPad] Export Files From iPad
Apple, in its iOS, has closed the access to many subdirectories like iBooks etc.
Some of them can only be accessed by its own apps like mail app. etc.
It may be due to security reasons but it makes the whole system less versatile and productive.

Thanks. That will work for videos and photos. I think until Apple allows other types of files to be exported to something like the Sandisk storage unit, I'm out of luck.
\\ /\( ) Alice.( ). lwr32@mac.comI'm looking for a solution to an export problem. What I'd like to do is be able to import and export files, music, movies etc to and from my iPad to either an external HD or an SD card without the use of a computer. Is that possible?
AliceWill this work for you:
