Wanted to thank everyone for their input related to my issue with a music app popping up on my screen uninvited. I think the problem has been solved (which I had never had prior to the latest OS update) by going to the general settings and turning OFF "Music" (thank you Ted). I don't recall seeing that option before.
I don't play music or use any music apps on my iPad so never really paid much attention to any music-related settings. Not sure why this came about, but from a couple replies here it looks like "Music" really wants to intrude into the functioning of the iPad (and other Apple devices).
