I ported my number that I've had for 24 years but not until I had used GV long enough to know it was dependable.

I use my GV on my iPhone without porting it but only calls that go through it go through it. I use YouMail to filter out funny numbers.
~Kris M.\\ "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." ~Helen Keller //P.S GV requires you to have a Google account of some type. A Gmail account will work.
PeteDO NOT port your number to GV until you understand it inside and out. Google will let you choose your own completely free number during the sign up process. Read all the directions first here. You can contact me off list and I can walk you through the setup process much, much faster than you can do it yourself.

Google Voice does an excellent job with both types of calls. It will send them directly to a spam folder without ringing your phone. You can also permanently block them in which case they will get a message saying your phone is no longer in service.
