jim,

1. i see the opened app but with no information in it.
2. yes, i've closed and re-opened the app several times.
3. no, i've not done the hard reboot...i acknowledge i'm uptight about doing that.

What, exactly, *do* you see when you open the Contacts App?

Have you tried killing the App (double-press the Home button, then swipe the app upwards off the screen) — then re-starting it?

Have you tried re-booting (Home and On/Off buttons held down together until the Apple logo appears, then leave it alone until the re-boot cycle completes).
