Did anything fix the issue? And if so, what?

Regarding my FaceBook app misbehaving on my iPad, thanks for the suggestions stated in question form. I've had iMacs for maybe 15 years, and have learned how to do a number of things.
However, the iPad is a different animal (Duh!), and I'm struggling. I had no idea how to delete an app on iPad, as you suggested. (When in doubt, read the instructions!)I bought 2 books on the iPad, and "the missing manual" is by far the better, in my estimation. So, I went to the index, opened the pages 170-171, followed the instructions (Duh again!) and very shortly the FaceBook app came in healthy and functional. Thanks for indirectly suggesting that I follow my own advice about reading instructions. If anyone else is non-intuitive with these things, as am I, I do recommend the book "iPad the missing manual." Of course, it only serves to collect dust and take up space if you don't go to the index when you have a problem, open to the suggested page(s), and follow the instructions step by step.Jimbo in S Cal (where we finally had some rain!)
