I have HP desktop and HP printer scanner.
I can print and scan wirelessly.
HP desktop creates a private wireless network, which is also secure.
I can join from my iPad and IPhone into this network provided desktop is switched on.
In other words, I think, desktop creates a hotspot and acts like a router.
I am not sure what softwares are running is desktop or iOS devices.
