You could if it were the same size card. The iPad3 has a "normal" size … the Air has the micro card, so they cannot be switched (both are Verizon).

In the USA it's different. We have both CDMA and GSM networks. A Verizon iPad won't work on a GSM network and an AT&T iPad won't work on a CDMA network.

It happens when you transfer your cellular service from one iPad to the other. It's just like buying a new cellphone, the old one stops working when the new one starts working.

Verizon will deactivate the old SIM card and activate the new one at the same time. A deactivated SIM card will display "no service" in the upper left hand corner of the screen. The new owner will not be able to use the card until they open their own Verizon account and put the card in their name.
