I heard that sometimes it says it's not charging but it really is, that after it reaches 20% it starts showing that it is charging. Could that be it?

They charging stops after about 90 seconds. On all my extenders. Only in my iphone5. On my iPad they still work.

Is it that the cords aren't working at all or only that you're getting a
message about how it's an uncertified cable and it "might not work" -- I
get that every time I use the Apple-provided USB-lightning connector
cable that came with my iPad4.
I simply tap the "Dismiss" word on the screen, and so far this
"uncertified cable that might not work" has worked fine.
