Have you considered using something like Google Voice or TextFree for free texting?  I don't use iMessage because I know very few people that use it.  My kids don't use it and they have iPhones.

Well, did the reset network all seemed good. Outside now pondering mowing the neighbours and my lawns and messaging daughter. The iMessage stays on sending so touched the messages and sent as text. I'll try a hard restart and see how that goes

Ill try that Ted. Daughters has been a bit hit and miss too since she went to iOS7. What was disappointing is that it doesn't send as text instead even though that setting was set. I've turned it off for now as Texts are unlimited here, but hopefully they fix it
