Re: [iPad] Re: was I scammed

But with Kickstarter, as with other crowdfunding sites, you know you are
funding a project which may or may not come off on schedule (or at all).

An outright "pre-order this product" without more information about the
company, status of the product, up-front-admission that it's still in
development (or whatever) is a little too vaporous for me. As I said, I
didn't really get into researching Tile, I was already offput by the way it
presented itself -- the opening page is "order now & send money!" not "help
us finish developing this product by paying now...."

And yes, I have put plenty into Kickstarter.

Kickstarter works the same way although they say you're donating to help
them raise money and when the product comes out (if it ever does) you'll be
one of the first to get the product.

I don't think it is a scam. I am a very frequent visitor to and an often
participant with crowdsource funding like projects on kickstarter.com.

I have probably purchased fifteen products or so (so far) and have had very
good experience with at least 2/3, and only problems with two (which is
probably better if you ordered a product untouched by you on line).

These products need your money to get to full production via the tooling and
test phase. The time line can be anywhere from a few weeks to many many
months. If it is a great product than it is worth the risk of having less
than $20 tied up.
