I guess I was lucky and got onto the servers first thing when it was
available -- I downloaded the upgrade to iTunes (have to do that before
being able to download and install the iOS5 upgrade) and got to a
certain point and then things stopped (the iOS5 updater was all
downloaded to my computer). I reran the Update iOS and things are
finally getting back to normal -- from what I could see on my iPad1, it
backs the entire thing up on your computer, then it wipes the iPad
totally clean and installs iOS5, then it restores all your apps. That's
where my iPad is now (5:42 eastern time) having started at right around
1pm (eastern time).
I have a ton of apps, so this will most likely go on well into the
evening (I'll be leaving for band rehearsal in an hour and if it's not
done by then, I'll just have to wait until I get home to see if it's
complete.)
