Yes, and also on iPod Touch, iPhone. Great way to get little snaps of things you may want to keep.

I don't know how to save in PDF format...but here is a trick that's just about as useful.  When you have the receipt or whatever on your iPad screen, simultaneously press the home button and the On/off button for about one second.  You'll see a quick flash, and then you'll find that a snapshot of your receipt has been added to your photo album.
