A few months ago Hotspot Shield was discussed as a means of acquiring WiFi security when using the iPad in a public environment. I very briefly tried HoTSpot Shield and one time it seemed to have worked, but more recent attempts to use it have failed. It appears that Hotspot Shield now requires their software to be installed on the client machine, and although they do have software for Mac, they currently do NOT have an application for iPad. An email I received from them yesterday says they expect to have one “ soon “, whatever that means.
Meanwhile I have a need NOW for a secure access to the Internet over any public WiFi. Does anyone have any suggestions of a substitute for HotSpot Shield that does work now for iPad, and that does NOT require me to set up a dedicated VPN server of my own?
