Re: [iPad] OT Apple in NC

Beautiful photos!

As to the topic of Apple in NC, I think that I agree with Mary's thoughts.

I have lived in Charlotte my whole life, and have seen crazy changes here over the past few decades.  Without going into a lot of debate about whether Right to Work is good or not, because I haven't really decided about that myself, I can say that there are some good reasons why Apple would want to locate a plant here, and why workers would want to come here to work.

My husband works for one of the large banks in Charlotte.  Even though the banks have large presences in New York, they frequently move as many jobs as they can to NC.  And many of their employees willingly relocate.  A large reason for that is that a bank can pay the worker less in NC and the worker still be able to afford MORE than when they lived in New York.  The cost of living is less, so workers can go from tiny apartments to large houses.  I can remember my husband paying $600 a month for one of two bedrooms in a basement in Washington DC in college, and then we came to Charlotte when we got married and didn't pay that much for our entire house payment!  A friend of mine is currently looking at having to pay half a million dollars to get a townhouse in DC similar to ours that we bought for $165,000.

So, in general, lower wages would be one reason why Apple wants to be here, and lower cost of living would be a big reason why workers might want to work here.

Also, it is really pretty.
