Network wifi or network cellular?

Hi, Lately my iPad has been acting a little weird. The first thing that happened was that for some reason it would say that it has lost connection with the internet (or similar words). I'll pick up my MacBook and that is still connected (same network as my iPad. So I'll shut the iPad off and turn it back on again and without doing anything else, it will magically be connected again.
The second thing (new today) is that I am not getting any mail on the iPad but I am on my MacBook. I turned the iPad off and when I turned it on again it required me to reactivate it which I did but I'm still not getting mail.
Does anybody have a clue what can be going on? Thank you. Joyce
