If i remember correctly that means they aren't on iMessage. Not a sending end thing but a receiving end thing.

A few days ago I upgraded my iPad 4 from iOS 7.1.1 to 8.1.3 without any problems. After the upgrade I iMessaged a usual contact with an iPhone but it kept coming back with "Not Delivered" although other iPhone contacts went through fine. It gave me an option to send as a regular (SMS?) message so I did so and it went through immediately but showed the text in green bubbles indicating it was not an iPhone contact. Now all the messages to this person remain as green. Is there any way I can switch this person's messaging back to the previous blue iMessaging mode? Delete the entire conversation and start a new conversation?
