IMO. My opinion is that it is a selfish act in that the act doesn't take into consideration those that love you and will beat the pain and burden of said act for a long time to come. It may stop your pain but it creates way more pain in the wake. 

I've had bouts of depression. I have contemplated suicide. Did the math on how much unisom it would take. I've taken medication for it. I'm on none now. I'm no expert. I'm not a doctor or psychiatrist or psychologist. I'm just a guy with an opinion. 

My apologies to those I have offended. 

Obviously we know very little about RW. Some of his life was public info but the pain he was hiding with his comedy and drug use and some have said mental illness although was something that is not spoken much of. It must have been insurmountable.

Very sad indeed. I read this morning that Robin Williams hung himself. I also read where Todd Bridges (Facts of Life) had said it was very selfish of Robin Williams. I have to agree with him although he very quickly apologized for saying it and I also agree with him apologizing.
 
 
All of us who grew up watching Mork and Mindy and watched Williams career grow bigger and bigger makes it much more of a tragedy.

Hanging yourself is a very selfish act. I recall watching Mork and Mindy. The World According to Garp. And even was following his new TV series...

Maybe I missed something, Christopher, but I didn't read one post where anyone judged Robin Williams for committing suicide. As to thinking one's way out of depression, I agree with you. It would be great if one could think oneself out of it, but that's not the way it works. My husband also suffers from it, and I know he would gladly "think himself out of it" if he could. Fortunately, he got help and is on medication which helps him deal with it. He has the additional burden of knowing that two of his relatives committed suicide due to depression.

It may not have been meant that way Carlee, but it came across quite succinctly that a number of people on here were judging Robin Williams for committing suicide.
 
 
If one could just "think" one's way out of depression, then life would be so much easier and simpler.
 
 
But that is not the way it happens.
 
 
My heart goes out to anyone suffering from depression. Hopefully, one day we will find an answer.
