There are one or two GPS chips in your iPad (depending on if you have a cellular model or not). There are also location services turned on that use the info from the GPS chips.

How does current location determine the location? It finds my home location one address to high, no big deal considering it can also figure out where I am when I'm 'out and about'. [You can see that I have finally become a Wisconsinite after thirty plus years living here. :-) ]
That it finds my location makes me wonder HOW!
