[iPad] Re:inherited my Dad's iPad

 

If you have access to his computer with iTunes on it then you can sync the iPad to it and not loose anything. That is one thing that you can do that won't require his password if he didn't write it down.
The keyboard is something that grows on you. You might find out that you prefer it after a while.
Have you read the User Guide yet? It's the bottom bookmark in Safari.
