Just for further clarification, I almost NEVER turn off my iPad as there is practically no current drain from the battery when it is in sleep mode with the cover closed. The few times I did charge it in the OFF condition made very little difference in charge time. I would hazard to guess that the difference in fully charging a depleted battery in off vs. sleep mode is way less than 30 minutes.
