Re: [iPad] Re: iBooks 2 author

Library of Congress gets free copies of every book that is printed. Ebooks are not "printed" but only published. Do they still need to be submitted to LoC, in "printed on paper" form?

Libraries will not go away, not in my lifetime anyway. In truth until all books are digitized, academia will need libraries for research, and academia is very slow to change. Secondarily the Library of Congress is dependent on ISBN numbers for numerious reasons, and being a government agency it is also slow to change.

I quess what I am trying to say is do not put libraries on "death watch" just yet.

The purpose of libraries was also the same. In electronic books age, libraries will vanish. ISBN will no longer be required for unique identity, search or whatever else. Those roles will be provided by iBook store.

What that means is you have to choose between Amazon, Sony, Barnes and Noble, or Apple before you start the publication process. Add to that the cost of obtaining an ISBN number and you have a cost of $225 to $325.

She did not specifically answer my questions about costs and royalties. That tells me something as well; it speaks to the question you posed, Webster . . . what about costs?
