The web post asserts that everyone who recommends killing open apps in the multitask bar to keep your device running smoother is WRONG. including the people at the genius bar. What do you all think?

The post is correct. The great majority of applications present in the RECENTLY USED bar are NOT running.
Most are completely shut down, and don't know *how* to run at the same time as something else.
Some may be in "suspended animation" awaiting being called to the front to start running again.
A very few have been designed and programmed to *actually* run in the background (notably iPod functions and some GPS apps). For that reason, and because it sucks up battery when running, I always actively kill my TomTom app when I'm through actually *using* it.
