Re: [iPad] Re: iPad for musical scores

Kriss,
Check out Songbook+ at the ipad store. I have found it to be the most versatile of them all. I have tried virtually all of lyrics programs for the ipad and end up using Songbook+ almost exclusively. 2nd choice would be Unrealbook. Then a distant 3rd, igigbook.
I use Songbook+ about 3 gigs a week plus use it for rehearsing etc. For a musician...don't leave home without it.
I can help if you have questions about Songbook+. Take care

The two main music-reading apps are MusicReader and ForScore.

I have both of them and stopped using MusicReader in favor of ForScore
because I find the music annotating capabilities to be just a bit better.

They're both great programs, they are both very inexpensive for all that
they do, and both read PDF files now.  Originally MusicReader required a
computer component which cost around $50 to convert PDF files into a
native MusicReader format, but they have changed now so they can read
any PDF and the computer component is only needed if one wishes to use
one's computer for reading the music.  ForScore has always read PDF files.

I have thousands of music files loaded into ForScore, from complete
orchestral scores to solo music for trumpet as well as for recorder.

Both apps work well with the accessory footswitches from AirTurn -- I
have the bluetooth footswitches mounted on a board.  One switch allows
forward page turns and one switch allows backward page turns.

Both apps allow for full-page or half-page turns so that a person can be
reading/playing the bottom of one page while the screen turns to the top
half of the next page so that it's possible to keep on playing with both
hands without pausing.  And when one needs to turn back a page, it's the
bottom half of the previous page which shows first.

Either app will allow the user to assign repeats, although to use these
requires tapping the screen (footpedals don't help unless the repeat
goes back only one page) but they also allow re-ordering of pages, where
the user can duplicate an earlier page (or pages) and can then build the
repeated sections into the normal straight-through flow of the file.

They are incredibly versatile and useful and are a bargain for the
prices which are charged.

The only edge which ForScore has over MusicReader in my opinion is in
the quality of the annotations which can be placed in the music by the user.
