If you use 2 fingers than split it, only local area will be enlarge.
But if you use 3 fingers, than split it, the whole area including status bar will be enlarge.

All I have to do to enlarge a picture is tap the screen two times with only one finger.  The same to decrease it back to normal.  A Two finger tap will put it back up on top.
