The trouble is that it depends a lot on your house. Mine is english, and quite old, thick walls, even within, and floor to ceiling book in nearly every room. I've already tried a wireless router, to no avail, but will try again, perhaps with an additional secondary router to pass on the signals. An important matter this, as I'll want wifi for the eventual ipad!

But it really depends on all sorts of factors -- so irritating to get it right. Lucky folk, with more accommodating  houses!

do it. lather. rinse. repeat. can you get on? if you can then its a more narrow issue that we can continue to troubleshoot, if you cannot then its a back to the factory issue IMO YMMV

Does Ethernet work just not wifi? To get iTunes library to load?
================================================

Not exactly.

General results from today's trials:

AirPlay from iPad works -- at least to start, I didn't watch more than a
couple of minutes of a show that I had purchased from iTunes.

ATV will get on internet -- whether or not my pc is even turned on -- no
trouble connecting to the router/wireless network which is connected to my
DSL -- I tried a YouTube or podcast w/ no problem.

When computer is on, running iTunes, with home sharing on, computer
authorized --
pc on wireless: ATV will try to load my library but then says it can't,
tells me to run iTunes & turn on home sharing.

pc-ATV connected by ethernet -- ATV finds the library but then when I select
a show to watch it tells me that I need to authorize the computer!

Guess I'll have to haul it all into the Apple Store since something is
whacko (&/or it just don't like me.)
Any other ideas

Re: [iPad] iPad and. iTouch network not connecting

This happens in public too.... My Android phone has a great app WiFi Analyzer that shows every wireless network and what channel it is on...

Is it as simple as changing my routers to an unused channel? I  know nothing about channels but is it literally if 2 network devices are say on Channel 9 they will block each other unless one changes to an unused channel? I use a 3g Android hotspot (Sprint) and a 4g Android hotspot (T-Mobile) and they are as unreliable to connect to via iPad and iTouch as the ones at home - I am researching being able to change those channels....

http://wireless.wikia.com/wiki/Wi-Fi
seems to explain some of this.... I just wondered if people on the group had any experience with iTouch/iPad connectivity problems...

Do I need to buy something like this for the iPad...
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/network-diagnostics-utility/id306478905?mt=8

Is their something free or built-in that will help?

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2780293?start=870&tstart=0
is a thread I will work my way through as well but hoping for some tips from veterans here...

Hmm, there are many apps can help you to stream video to ATV, and you also can play iPad videos on the ATV, but as said no way to watch TV on iPad.
For How to Play iPad Videos on TV, you can read this guide: http://www.ifunia.com/ipad-column/howto-play-ipad-videos-on-tv.html
And for more Apple TV using tips&tricks, this ATV wiki should miss!

Re: [iPad] Re: Apple TV

Cablevision or optimum have an app.

During hurricane people ran an extension cord from car inverter in cig lighter to power cable and wifi modem.

That enabled iPad to receive all cable channels.

Downside? I think u have 2 b on optimum cable system. Also. cable need to b operable.

Thx

Bill.

how doles sling player allow for you to stream from your apple tv to iOS device again?

Slingplayer
Price: $29.99 (app), $179.99 (Slingbox)
The Slingbox has been around for a while-doing the same thing really well. This gadget plugs in to your cable box, and broadcasts your programming to the Internet. With a Web browser, you can access your own cable box from anywhere, and watch your own TV without being at home. The Slingplayer iPhone app ($29.99) makes it incredibly easy to watch TV from the Web-anything you can watch at home, you can watch on your iPad via Slingbox. The app isn't currently designed for the iPad, but, according to the company, full support is in the works, and video already looks good in enlarged mode on the iPad.

Elgato EyeTV
Price: $99.95 (EyeTV One); $4.99 (app)
Watching live TV on your iPad is a pretty compelling idea, and a surprisingly easy one. The Elgato EyeTV One is a $99.95 dongle for your Apple computer that displays and records live TV, turning your Mac into a television and a DVR. The EyeTV can stream that high-definition TV programming from your Mac to your iPad with the $4.99 EyeTV app. You can also schedule or watch recorded shows right from your iPad. You'll need both the dongle and the app to get the TV onto your iPad, but it's a very complete solution.
