Thanks for the clarification Tony.
Sadly, I don't know anyone with an Android phone at this point. lol If I did, I would probably use Google Hangouts with them just because it also has a desktop client. My alternative would be Facebook Messenger.
Of course, all of this assumes that I don't have an iPhone to receive text messages and am limited to an iPad.

Yes, I see.Continuity includes Handoff which requires BT for the initial broadcast and same wifi network thereafter.Continuity for text messaging requires wifi (not needed to be on the same wifi) which is the Text message Forwarding settingContinuity for calls requires same wifi.

No, it doesn't use Bluetooth and the devices don't have to be on the same wifi network for text forwarding.
TedSent from my iPad AirYes, ContinuityTexts aka SMS can only be used on a device that has a text plan and the SMS APN to support that. Continuity allows your iPhone to be the only text capable device, but the Mac and iPad tether wirelessly to the iPhone so they send and receive the iPhones texts, using the Mac or the iPad. If on the same wifi network. Actually don't they use BT to join to the iPhone?

You can have any iOS device answer any text or phone call if it's on the same wifi network.I'm signed in as me to my iPad and iPhone and Mac. With the aforementioned option all my texts goto all my devices regardless of carrier or mobile os~KLM\\ "Antisocial behavior is a trait of intelligence in a world full of conformists" ~Nikola Tesla //> I don't have that option. All I have in messages is iMessage.

As far as I know, iMessage works only on Apple devices, *IF* they are set up for it, and uses any data connection, Wifi or cellular.
So Android devices will NOT see material sent as iMessage.
*IF* your device has a cellular contract that includes standard SMS text messaging, THEN Settings — Messages should include the option to "Send as SMS".
My iPhone has such a capability in my AT&T contract, and includes that option.
My iPad, running the same version of iOS, has no SMS capability in its Verizon contract, and does NOT include that option in Settings.
