I have an old Reunion version for my Mac, but I also have, and use, Family Tree Maker for Mac. I also subscribe to Ancestry.com <http://ancestry.com/>.
Family Tree Maker is owned by Ancestry (I believe) and FTM is synced whenever you change or add a fact. Ancestry has mobile apps, but you might need a subscription to use them. Ancestry has a trial period if you decide to try it. I'm not sure that I can start a family file in the mobile app, but I do know I can add to a family file.
Nothing comes cheap, that's for sure.
I wouldn't be concerned about using Dropbox to transfer your family files.

One must buy Reunion 11 for the Mac and can only transfer a family file to the iPad via Dropbox (which exposes one's data to ....). So Reunion is way behind the technology curve possible on modern tablets.
