That's interesting.  I know nothing about the pigments used in tattoos and had no idea about their opacity.  Thanks for the explanation, Jim.  Do you think they will be able to find a fix for this issue and do you have any idea what that would be?

One (or more) of the articles I read stated clearly that dark-pigmented skin was not an issue at all, just the ink in tattoos.   This shows how many things have to be considered when bringing a completely new product to the market!  Who would have ever thought that a tattoo would be a problem for a watch!


I would. 
Not for time-keeping, but for a sensor methodology that involves shining a light deep into the skin and monitoring the reflectance.

A tattoo, with some opaque pigments, would be like sliding a piece of aluminum foil between the watch and the skin.
