Several people have told you how delighted you will be if you upgrade to
a newer iPad. I did that and I really liked it.
On the other hand, if you and your iPad1 are still having a great
relationship and it does all that you want/need it to do, there is no
need to upgrade or even to worry about iOS7 or 8. Keep backing up your
device to your computer or the cloud so that if it dies you'll have your
data ready to transfer to a new device, but keep on using it until you
can't use it anymore and enjoy it!
