You just have to get used to it. Same goes for some American dialects like the Creole you mentioned, as well as some Australian ones.
I used to work with two different gentlemen from Dublin, Ireland. One had a beautiful, lilting brogue (as the song put it in Finnegan's Wake, "both rich and sweet"), and the other one was about 30% completely unintelligible -- even to the other Dubliner.
