Asking around my location in Eastern NC though AT&T works fine for me I have talked to many people that say it doesn't cover the area off the coast as well as Verizon so for those boaters going out regularly Verizon would be a better choice. On the other hand when I was at my nephew's wedding in northern Vermont AT&T was the only cell service that worked. Also AT&T was the only cellular service that continued working through the two days of Hurricane Irene. So back to asking friends in the areas you will be to get a good idea as to which service will suit you well.

But perhaps the O.P. does not.
Perhaps the O.P. lives and/or travels somewhere where Verizon i weak and AT&T is strong.
