I have a couple cables that give me the same message. They still work. I also have a Maxboost battery case for my iPhone 5 that gives me the same message but still works. I'm not worried about it.
This message may also be seen (maybe) if you plug into a USB port what doesn't have the proper power supply.
That is, try the same cable plugged into the computer USB port, rather than a hub or keyboard port, and you might see differently.
Powered hubs are not the same as unpowered hubs, too.
