Two different schools of thought I suppose. I have babies for dogs, but all of my life, I have taken dogs from upright to on their back as puppies. They have never forgotten I am alpha, but otherwise they have been kind loving dogs. To me it's not about showing my strength over the dog or intimidation, especially when I was directed to do such with dogs as a child. Simply the fact that I was the head of their pack. I have had German shepherds, beagles, goldens, cockers and Maltese. True,..nothing perceived as ferocious, but dogs none the less.

Dogs don't want to take over the house, as old-think tried to tell us. Dogs look to us to guidance. Positive training is the way to go. I have raised 4 amazing Bouvier des Flandres dogs (a protective herding breed used as police dogs in Europe and some American areas before Mals took over.)

The technique I used was to flip the dog on its back and to not let go until they relaxed, essentially giving up control to me. I raised two lover pit bulls this way.
