> In the 70s hatred was against Doberman pinchers then German shepherds. Then Rottweilers. Now pit bulls. I'm against racism towards dogs. I've never seen a mean pit bull. I know they exist. But I have met yappy little dogs that have bitten me on more than one occasion.
A lot of people don't bother training or disciplining little yappy dogs because they think they are cute when they yap at someone's ankles, or at a Great Dane.
Fools.
Pits are often very one-person animals, and often* the one person therefore sees no need to train the dog (because it's always friendly and well-behaved with *them*).
*Here in Baltimore and Baltimore county, MOST of the dogs given up to the pounds are Pits or Pit crosses, and in MANY cases are there in the pound because the owner couldn't deal with it when it was no longer a cute puppy.
In comparison to other dogs about their size, Pits have much stronger jaw muscles and are potentially more dangerous for that reason alone.
That all being said, some of the nicest pets (other people's) that I've met were properly trained Pit Bulls.
