Julia,
Apple's iOS is app driven. As a result, you must have an app that stores files. By default, the mail app displays what is in the mail messages. If you want to save it or edit it, you must have an app that does what you want. Thankfully there are tons of app that do many things. The bad thing is that most people won't know which one to use without some research or discovery.
If you want to save files for retrieving and viewing later, I would suggest Dropbox. Download it and create an account. You will have access to the files from any platform: iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, etc.
Dropbox in AppStore.
Thanks,
Carl W. Brooks
I am using the gmail app. Unless I am doing something dumb all I am getting is Print.
