I don't think that is asking too much.


I live in the midwest and we don't often get much warning of impending weather related disasters.  Tornadoes do not give you much time if you are in their path.

A few years ago we had a freak storm that went through that cut a wide path across a pretty large area.  The storm produced 100mph straight line winds and took out the power for about a week.  No warning, no time.  I was in decent shape because I had gas hot water heater and I always have plenty of batteries around, and we were lucky in that the time of year was neither really hot nor really cold so temps weren't an issue.  I also had insurance to take care of the pesky tree that decided it wanted to visit my son's bedroom and the damage that entailed.
