Some of the newer Denon, Pioneer and other brands of AVR makers are supporting AirPlay and it does work.
Or you could use an Airport Express with Airplay, connect the audio from that to your receiver and it would work too.
The downside is that many report it all doesn't work as well as they would like.
Not knowing which home theater rig you have, I need to ask a question or 3... :)
Does your receiver support HDMI?
If so, plug an AppleTV in and select that input and you are good to go.
If it doesn't support HDMI, then the choices are not as good. You need a new receiver!

A few years ago we set ourselves up with an HDTV and home theater system (Panasonic) for surround sound. The cable box is connected to the home theater system and the home theater system to the TV.
I'd love to be able to stream from my iPad to the TV, but don't know how I'd connect it to the sound system which runs the TV. Has anyone from the group had success adding an Apple TV to this kind of set up? I'm stumped.
