I still say the iPad mini is over priced. Yet you're right Tony, it will sell well. Having a retina display would have helped it sell better, IMHO.

On my local forum in NZ I see some complaining that its using old technology. I feel the aim was to make a smaller iPad to compete with other 7" tablets, and cheap. If they made an iPad4 Mini, that would only cannibalise iPad4 sales, and not be cheap. I feel that there will be some cannibalising, so some lost margin, but still a margin. They will get new users, both from those that want a smaller tablet and would have gome Android, and those that can now afford an iPad. Thats a win as I see it, if I am right. iPad4 sales will be lower, but total iPad sales will be higherFrom: Carlee Marrer-Tising <c-marrer-tising@bluewin.ch>

We have a completely different situation here (Switzerland), and yes, tethering is allowed with the Orange provider I have on my iPhone. I have changed recently to pre-paid, so I can pretty well stay on top of costs. As to data, I don't have a plan, so I can't give you any info on that. I usually use Wi-Fi for data. We are lucky here in that we have a lot of places that offer free Wi-Fi.
I feel pretty much the same as you with regard to the iPad Mini's display. I expect it to be a bit better than the iPad2, and so I doubt very much that it is so fuzzy as to make it as "horrible" as some of the reviews make it sound. Like you say, if they are using the absolute latest and sharpest display as their reference, the Mini will surely fall short. That only makes sense. And who knows, maybe the next version will have the retina display. I was just hoping to hear from someone who had actually seen the device and played around with it.
I don't know just when I'll get mine and I'm not even completely sure if I want the Wi-fi only. But probably. LOL I pre-ordered it, but the store didn't get it in when they expected it. Now they are hoping they'll get it next Wed. We'll see. If they do, I'll go have a look and maybe by then I'll have made up my mind as to the cellular vs. Wi-Fi only issue. :-D

Does your phone plan already include hotspot/tethering or would you be willing to add that as a standing feature?
AAUI the ipad cell plan can be turned on just for the months you need it; but a phone-thether-plan would be a monthly charge that might not be so easy to get rid of.
And of course if you tether you other device(s) to the phone your data-usage on it would go up -- what kind of data plan do you have.
I haven't seen a mini ipad, but I doubt the display could be any worse than the ipad-1 and I still find that quite usable. Some of the "reviews" make it sound like the mini is "horrible" as if it were a 1980 CRT screen or something, rather than just not the absolute *latest* & sharpest available.
:-)
I plan to stop in an Apple store & ogle the new toys sometime but I'm in no rush.

Wow! That's pretty cool! By the way, when I pre-ordered my iPad mini, the man in the store recommended that I get the wifi only since I could use my iPhone as a hotspot for it if I wanted Internet. Do you think this is a good idea, or would you go for the one that also has cellular version?
What is your impression of the mini? Is the display as bad as some of the reviewers say?
