Mine won't charge on the computer. But the cord is the same it just goes into the plug that comes with all this stuff. It unfolds to become a plug for an electrical unit. I have several of them floating around. They come with iPhones too. You can always buy o e from apple online or go to the apple store.

She will be able to use your cord to charge her iPod. The issue isn't actually a problem with the cord, but rather with the USB port that you plug it into. Some computers don't provide as much power to their USB ports as others, and the iPad takes a good bit of juice. If you have another computer, you could try plugging it into that to see if it works better. But even though it says "Not Charging", it is probably just charging slowly. If you left it plugged in overnight, I suspect that it would still charge a good bit, and that is what I would personally try.
