A dongle is something that plugs into a port on an electronic device,
either to increase capability or as software anti-piracy measures.
The wireless dongle turns the HP470 Deskjet Portable into a wireless
printer. I also have a bluetooth dongle (you might call it "adapter")
which turns the printer into a bluetooth printer.
