There is something to be said for things that fit in your pants pocket, like the iPod Touch, some things that you carry with you, like the iPad. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd like to put the Samsung tablet in my pocket, so it's too large for that use. Though I've not seen one, the small screen size makes the Samsung lose as far as carrying one with you.
Other things to consider:
Griffin, I think, makes an iPad case with an elastic band in the back that makes carrying it in one hand a breeze. The folks at the Apple store use these.
If you sync two iPads to the same computer, you can copy all (or any) of the apps to either, meaning that you need only purchase the iWork apps once. Can't do that with an iPad and the "next best thing" - which, at least right now, there isn't in my opinion!
