I have a 13" MBPro and an iMac, both new in Feb 2010. Each has two 2 GB memory modules so that each machine has a total of 4 MB each apiece. What surprised me was that the memory has the same part number per System Profiler on each Mac.
What I'd like to do is take out the 2 GB modules from my MBP and use them in the 2 unused slots on the iMac (it has 4 slots total; there is one 2 GB module in each of the 1st 2 slots now). We can all use a little cheap speed boost.
OWC has a trade in program but this kind of recycling is an even better deal :-).
Buying new memory: OWC sells both their brand and NuRam brands, but the prices are different for 2 each 4 MB modules. OWC's brand is $118, while they sell the NuRam for $105.
OWC's service has always been excellent so I'd like to stick with them unless someone has a hugely better idea. But can anyone explain the prices? Is OWC charging more for their advance exchange warranty? I assume since it is not mentioned in the NuRam warranty on the OWC site that OWC won't do an advance exchange on NuRam, but that seems less of a big deal since I will have so many ram sticks among our machines (wife has 2 in hers also).
Love to hear comments, suggestions from this always helpful group and wishing all a Happy New Year,
JH
