[iPad] iBooks and PDFs

 

I understand that you can put a pdf in iBooks and read it on the iPad. How do I get the PDF into the iBooks?
Does one do this on the computer and then sync the iPad?
And, I don't seem to have iBooks on my iPad anymore. Maybe I deleted it since I use Kindle for reading. I am assuming when I sync the iPad, iTunes will replace the iBooks.
