yea hold that down until a red slide to shut down or sklide to kill comes up do that and it powers off (from memory, mine is jailbroken.)
iPad: Turning on/off and resetting
Summary

Products Affected
iPadTo turn on
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
To turn off completely
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider.
If you can't turn your iPad on or off
You may need to reset. Note: Only reset your iPad if it is no longer responding.
To reset
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
