I also feel that automation is not always desired.
Intelligent toothpick may be a hypothetical example but practical examples may be found in millions of patents filed and forgotten.

Of course. The media and some of the investment people are going overboard on an unhealthy craze for introducing electronics and autonomy into everything, as fast and as thoroughly as possible.
Your ability to design an intelligent toothpick does not sync with any sane person's *need* for one. Society will survive. Get sane.

It will be, yep. There are accidents that cannot be avoided

You're thinking like a human. When all the cars have sensors and know where each other are at it will be better. Way safer than now.

And if computers control all that they would have less to worry about than human level reflexes and sensors which computers can easily best. The problem with self driving cars is humans. Remove those and the problem is much easier to solve.. But even now all of google car accidents were caused by the humans not the car. Unless that's changed in the last 90 days or so.
~KLM\\ "Antisocial behavior is a trait of intelligence in a world full of conformists" ~Nikola Tesla //The issue is if cannot avoid both, what does it do? It will try to avoid both, but while that will be done better than a human, the laws pf physics are the determinant, they cannot be broken. Speed, grip. Grip changes when changing direction.

No. It's not really. Once all the cars are driverless with the same rules it will be easier to compute. The problem is that the human will choose to swerve into a dog before a human but is that really the right answer? The computer will be more aware and attempt to hit neither object. But. You may say. A human life is more precious than a dog. That's an opinion. You may say... A child's life more important than an old man. That too is not a fact. A computer wil choose to hit neither. These things are being worked on and debated ethically.

They're working on that. Try to avoid both is the answer.
~KLM\\ "Antisocial behavior is a trait of intelligence in a world full of conformists" ~Nikola Tesla //One. What will it do if it can't avoid hitting a pedestrian or kids running onto the road?
