> At least at one time, there was an iOS Mail Setting that allowed you to limit the number of messages/emails displayed both within the app as well as in the red bubble over the Mail icon on the Home screen. I think it allowed something like 25, 50, 100 and 200. Now I can't find the setting in either iOS 8.4.1 or 9.0. Does anyone know if this setting still exists? My iPhone 5s currently displays over 1,000 mails, because I read Mail mostly on my iPad and only occasionally clear out the iPhone.

Probably the most efficient solution to the problem of "balancing" multiple devices is IMAP.
