agreed, david...but a wrist strap can easily be modified to serve as a lanyard...it can be done by tying a shoelace to the wrist strap...or, you can simply attach a commercially made lanyard to the wrist strap...that works well, too...i did the former with a small video camera and, as a result, i've never dropped it.
A wrist strap won't prevent a drop, unless you never remove the device from the strap.As a certified butterfingers, I'd probably throw the device across the room while fumbling the strap off my wrist :o(
